Biology Topics — VCE
VCE Biology Units 3 & 4 covers four areas of study, from nucleic acids and gene regulation in Unit 3 to population genetics and human impact on biological processes in Unit 4. These units are externally assessed and contribute to your ATAR.
Below you’ll find free flashcards and quizzes for each VCE Biology area of study, aligned to the VCAA Study Design. Active recall with flashcards helps you retain complex biological concepts more effectively than passive reading.

What areas of study are in VCE Biology Units 3 & 4?
Under the current VCAA study design, Unit 3 asks "What is the role of nucleic acids and proteins in maintaining life?" and "How are biochemical pathways regulated?". Unit 4 asks "How do organisms respond to pathogens?" and "How are species related over time?". All are assessed via SACs and the end-of-year exam.
How should I revise for the VCE Biology exam?
Focus on understanding processes rather than memorising facts. Use flashcards to test key terms and pathways (e.g. gene expression, Hardy-Weinberg). Practise applying concepts to unfamiliar scenarios, as the exam often tests application.
Are VCE Biology flashcards on Revizi free?
Yes. All VCE Biology flashcards and quizzes on Revizi are free to start, aligned to the VCAA Study Design. You can also upload your own notes to create custom flashcards.
