Study Tips
Start with the GAT
The GAT is in June — well before written exams. Use it as a mid-year checkpoint. Revise general knowledge across all three sections: written communication, mathematics/science/technology, and humanities/arts/social sciences.
Build a Revision Schedule
With written exams spanning 3+ weeks, you’ll often have gaps between papers. Use those gaps for targeted revision on upcoming subjects rather than reviewing ones you’ve already sat.
Practise Under Timed Conditions
VCE exams have strict time limits. Practise with a timer to build exam technique — know when to move on from a question and when to invest extra time.
Focus on Units 3 & 4
The end-of-year VCE exam covers Units 3 and 4 content only. Prioritise these units in your revision and use flashcards to reinforce key knowledge and skills.
Use Practice Exams
Simulate real VCE exam conditions with Revizi’s online test mode. Practice MCQ, short answer and extended response questions under timed conditions — then review your results to identify which topics need more work before exam day.

What is the VCE GAT?
The General Achievement Test (GAT) is a test of general knowledge and skills in written communication, mathematics, science, technology, humanities, the arts and social sciences. All students enrolled in a VCE Unit 3–4 study must sit the GAT. It is used by VCAA as part of the statistical moderation process.
How long are VCE exams?
VCE exam durations vary by subject. Most written exams are 2 to 2.5 hours. Mathematics subjects have two papers: a shorter technology-free paper and a longer technology-active paper. All exams include 15 minutes of reading time.
Can I use a calculator in VCE exams?
It depends on the subject. Mathematics exams have a technology-free section (no calculator) and a technology-active section (approved CAS calculator). Science exams generally allow an approved scientific calculator. Check the VCAA examination specifications for your specific subjects.
Where can I find exact subject-by-subject VCE exam dates?
VCAA has published the full subject-by-subject 2026 timetable. See the subject exam dates table above for major subjects, or the official VCAA examination timetable (linked above) for every subject, exact reading time and session time.
What’s the best way to prepare for VCE exams?
The most effective VCE exam preparation combines spaced repetition flashcards for content recall with timed practice exams for exam technique. Start revising Units 3 & 4 content in Term 3, use Revizi’s practice exams to simulate real conditions, and review your results to identify weak areas. Consistent revision over weeks beats last-minute cramming every time.
